Kim Kardashian Says There is So Much Pressure on Her to Stay Beautiful, She’s Developed This Condition

The Kardashians have built their multi-million dollar empire on their looks and their willingness to reveal virtually everything about themselves. But for Kim Kardashian, the pressure to keep her famous curves in tip top shape feels impossible to handle.

This summer, unedited bikini photos of Kim K made its rounds on social media, and it didn’t take long for internet hecklers to call out what they perceived as imperfections. News anchor and legendary troll Piers Morgan went out of his way to body shame Kim, saying that because she sells merchandise inspired by her backside, that criticizing her looks is “fair game.” This kind of scrutiny, Kim says, can tear down those with even the thickest of skin.

“You take pictures and people just body shame you,” the 36-year-old explained on the most recent episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians. “It’s like literally giving me body dysmorphia.”

The condition Kim describes happens when a person’s perception of their physical appearance is skewed. Body dysmorphia sufferers often imagine flaws about themselves that do not exist or exaggerating flaws obsessively. BD effects about 2.5% of the general population, according to research.

This isn’t the first time Kim has opened up about those dreaded bikini photos. She told The View, “I saw these awful photos of myself when I was on a trip in Mexico and people were Photoshopping them and sharpening them.” The 36-year-old mom of two, who frequently has been snapchatting her workout routines, added that she hasn’t exercised several months when those photos were taken due to surgeries performed on her uterus. “I definitely was not in my best shape.”

Are people being a little too hard on Kim, or does this come with the territory of being a hyper-visible celebrity?

When Kim Kardashian, Chelsea Handler, Amber Rose and other celebrities post nudes to social media, is it empowering?
