How Will Pauley Perrette's Abby Leave NCIS?

Pauley Perrette is saying goodbye NCIS after 15 years of playing Abby Sciuto, the forensics specialists on the team. Perrette, who is one of two people to appear in every NCIS episode, announced her exit on Twitter.

"So, it is true that I am leaving NCIS after this season. There has been all kinds of false stories as to why (NO I DON'T HAVE A SKIN CARE LINE AND NO MY NETWORK AND SHOW ARE NOT MAD AT ME!)," she wrote in a note posted on Twitter. "It was a decision made last year. I hope everyone will love and enjoy EVERYTHING ABBY not only for the rest of this season but for everything she has given all of us for 16 years. All the love, all the laughter, all the inspiration…I love her as much as you do."

However, fans don't know how Abby will be leaving. Over the 15 seasons, NCIS has said hello and goodbye to a number of characters in some very different fashions.

Sasha Alexander, an original cast member, left at the end of season two. Her character Caitlin Todd was killed off when the actress decided to leave the show. Her replacement came in the form of Cote de Pablo and her character Ziva David, who made her first appearance in the season three premiere. Season 11 was the last for de Pablo and her character who resigned from the NCIS team in season 10. In season 13, Michael Weatherly's DiNozzo learned Ziva was presumed dead—and he had a daughter with her. Weatherly left the show, and went on to star in Bull, with his character going to care for his daughter.

Lauren Holly, another season three addition, was killed in the line of duty in season five. However, Gibbs (Mark Harmon) helped cover a mistake and burned down her house, leading her cause of death to be fire.

Jennifer Esposito, a season 14 addition to the cast, left after one season to go take care of her ailing mother.

Lots of death involved with leaving NCIS

NCIS executive producers George Schenck and Frank Cardea said they are working on a special goodbye for Perrette and her character.

"We've known for some time this would be Pauley's final season on NCIS and have been working toward a special send-off," they said in a statement. "From day one, she has brought incredible passion and specificity to the role. Abby is a character that inspires millions of fans around the world, and all of us at NCIS are appreciative of Pauley for portraying her."

The amount Perrette's Abby has been on the show and how beloved she is makes us think she'll survive…
