Julia Louis-Dreyfus Reveals That She’s Battling Breast Cancer

There are many things I would like to see Julia Louis-Dreyfus announce on social media. Like that Veep won’t actually be done after the seventh season, and instead will continue for a long, long time, or at least until it has been decided that Selina and Gary will get their own spin-off called Hopelessly De-Voted to You. But because cancer is the type of awful disease to come after the good ones, Julia’s announcement is the extremely depressing kind.

Earlier today 56-year-old Julia announced on Twitter and Instagram that she’s been diagnosed with breast cancer.

HBO released the following statement about Julia’s breast cancer diagnosis:

“Our love and support go out to Julia and her family at this time. We have every confidence she will get through this with her usual tenacity and undaunted spirit, and look forward to her return to health and to HBO for the final season of Veep.”

Julia’s family includes her 59-year-old husband Brad Hall and two adult sons, Henry and Charles.

HBO tells People that Julia found out she had breast cancer one day after making Emmy history last week. E! News says that Julia’s diagnosis was not a factor in the decision to end Veep after seven seasons. HBO also says that they plan on adjusting the production schedule for the seventh season of Veep to work around Julia. But if Julia decides to take extra time to focus on getting better, maybe Kevin Spacey could help HBO out by putting on his Selina Meyers wig and filling in when needed.
